Woodland Wonders – Where Curiosity Grows and Muddy Boots Tell Stories

At St Mary’s, we believe that childhood should be full of adventure, discovery and joy. That’s why we’ve reimagined Forest School into something even more magical: Woodland Wonders.

Woodland Wonders is not just outdoor learning, it’s an experience that shapes curiosity, confidence and care for the natural world. Set against the backdrop of our beautiful local environment, children have the chance to step away from the classroom and into a world of wonder, where every leaf, bug and campfire tells a story.

Through carefully designed sessions, our children don’t just play outdoors; they explore, question, imagine and learn together. Each session builds resilience, teamwork and creativity, while giving children the space to feel calm, free and connected to nature.

Our Woodland Wonders Adventures

  • Basecamp – On our school field, children master core Forest School skills such as fire lighting, whittling and safe tool use, while also exploring teamwork and creativity.
  • Woodland Explorers – A guided walk into the woods, discovering trees, plants and minibeasts, and developing a natural curiosity about the living world.
  • Forest Camp – A day setting up camp in the woods, mixing traditional Forest School skills with imaginative, creative activities in a truly wild space.

Why Woodland Wonders?

  • From their first term to their last, every child at St Mary’s experiences Woodland Wonders each term; growing confidence, curiosity and a love of the outdoors year after year.
  • Experiences grow in depth and variety as children progress through the school.
  • The sessions nurture independence, problem-solving, teamwork and creativity.
  • Children love it – from the muddy boots and campfire sparks to the quiet awe of noticing something new in nature.

Woodland Wonders is a special part of life at St Mary’s. It’s how we give our children not only an excellent education, but also hands-on experiences in nature that enrich learning, nurture practical skills and confidence, and foster a lasting love of the outdoors, creating memories and growth that will last for years to come. It forms an important part of our rich and exciting curriculum, supporting the development of the whole child and providing experiences that are truly memorable.

Adventure. Discovery. Woodland Wonders… where will they take your child?
