ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

St. Mary’s is a small, thriving Church of England (Aided) School, nestled in the idyllic village of Frensham. With our welcoming environment and strong community ties, we accept applications from families of all faiths, as well as those of none.

Set on the village green, adjacent to the beautiful Frensham Common, our school offers a peaceful rural setting, surrounded by areas of natural beauty like Alice Holt Forest and Frensham Ponds. This stunning location provides children with a unique learning environment, connecting them with nature and fostering a sense of responsibility for the world around them.

With only three classes, catering to children aged between 4 and 7, St. Mary's offers a warm and welcoming introduction to school life. First established in 1845, the school has built an excellent reputation in the course of its long history for providing high-quality education in a nurturing environment.

St. Mary’s embraces change, blending modern facilities and progressive teaching methods while upholding traditional Christian values. As a feeder school to two highly regarded junior schools—Waverley Abbey and South Farnham Academy—St. Mary’s attracts families from near and far. We are also proud to be an affiliate member of the South Farnham Education Trust, ensuring that our pupils benefit from a strong, collaborative network of schools.

Why St. Mary's is Special

  • Christian Values at the Heart of Everything We Do: Our six core values—Respect, Love, Forgiveness, Fairness, Honesty, and Humility—guide our school community and are woven into every part of school life. Our strong links with St. Mary’s Church, just a short walk away, reinforce our Christian ethos.
  • Small and Nurturing Environment: With only three classes, St. Mary's offers a close-knit, family atmosphere. Each child benefits from individual attention, with a teacher and teaching assistant in every class. Our small pupil numbers mean that all the staff know every child, ensuring that each child feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.
  • A Rich Variety of Learning Opportunities: We believe that ‘Learning is fun at St. Mary’s.’ Children enjoy a range of exciting events such as Maypole dancing, Easter egg rolling on Frensham Common, the Christmas Nativity, and our annual summer production. Our extracurricular activities are just as varied, with clubs in French, dance, football, multi-sports, Spanish, gardening, ukulele, art, and choir. Each child also has the unique opportunity to work with coaches from Chelsea Football Club.
  • Strong Links with the Local Community: As a feeder school to Waverley Abbey and South Farnham Academy, St. Mary’s plays a vital role in the local education network. Our close relationships with the wider community and frequent outings to local sites ensure that our children grow up with a sense of belonging and community spirit.
  • Excellent Facilities: We are proud of our excellent facilities, including a spacious playground, a school field with a trim trail, a dedicated school hall with gymnastic apparatus, a library, and touch screen computers available for each classroom. We are committed to continuous improvement and are currently working on a fundraising project to enhance our playground for Easter 2025.
  • A Welcoming and Supportive Parent Community: We value the involvement of our parents and carers, and there are many ways to get involved, from helping with reading and clubs to joining us on trips. Our vibrant parents’ association, FOSMS (Friends of St. Mary’s School), organises fun events like quizzes, curry nights, and the annual Christmas Fayre, all designed to raise funds and help parents connect with one another.

At St. Mary’s, we provide a wonderful introduction to school life, combining traditional values with modern facilities and a curriculum designed to inspire. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our school community!
